Great Restaurants of Long Island
Owner Jack Achille Tagliasacchi comes from a family of restaurateurs.
Born in Parma, the northern part of Italy, in the Emilia-Romagna
region known internationally for exceptional cusine, Jack's apprenticeship
was divided between Italy, Switzerland and France. In 1954 he
went to Argentina and opened his first restaurant in Mendoza bringing
the flavors of his city to this far away place. In 1958 he came
to the United States and opened a Northern Italian Restaurant
in Miami. He later worked as Executive Chef for Julius La Rosa
in his popular restaurant in Holywood, Florida. Jack came to Long
Island in 1963 and was Executive Chef at Baron's Cove Inn in Sag
Harbor. He purchased that restaurant in 1970 and two years later,
with his family, he opened Il Capuccino.
Decorated
with classic red and white checkered tablecloths, canlelight,
and raffia-bound wine bottles, Il Capuccino is the traditional
Italian restaurant. Jack's philosophy is to keep the food old-world
style and keep prices modest. Signature dishes include tortelli
d'erbetta, pumpkin tortelli, homemade ravioli and ossobuco, all
prepared with Jack's hometown recipies by Chef James Renner. The
East Hampton Star says Il Capuccino has the "best Marinar
sauce in town" and the LI Monthly Magazine says the garlic
rolls are the "best in Long Island." All the desserts
are homedade and the wine list has many Italian choces including
their own house wine by the glass ~ just like in Italy.
Il
Capuccino is frequented by artists and writers - Jack is an artist,
himself. In addition to bein a chef and a successful restaurateur,
Jack Tagliasacchi, owner of Il Capuccino, in Sag Harbor, is an
accomplished artist in his own right. His beautiful paintings,
scenes of Italy, are on display throughout his restaurant. Jack
vacations in Italy, and when he sees a sceen that piques his interest,
he photographs it, then comes back home to the States and paints
it. He has also had shows in local galleries.
